Muringakkai vathakulambu
Vatha kulambu is native to Tamil cuisine and almost a very common curry in most of the Tamil homes. Umpteen permutations are possible for this curry by varying the vegetables or can be had even without adding any vegetable.
Ingredients
Drum sticks-250g (Chopped into 1 1/2inch size pieces)
Tuvar dal(lentils):2tsp
Black gram :2tsp
Chana dal-2tsp
Corriander seeds:2tsp
Rice:1tsp
cumin seed:1tsp
Pepper grains:1 tsp
Red chilli powder-1 tsp
Tumeric powder:1tsp
Tamarind:one lemon size
Onion-1(small)-sliced thin
curry leaves:2 sprigs
Mustard:1tsp
Oil &
Salt-As required
Method
Cook the Drumsticks in a pressurecooker with some water and a pinch of turmeric for 3 minutes.
Dry roast the Tuvar dal,urad dal,corriander seeds,chana dhal,Rice,pepper grains&cumin seed.Now Grind the fried ingredients.Add the red chilli powder and grind further into a fine paste. Heat oil and pop in Mustard &chana dhal.After it has spluttered, put sliced onion&curry leaves.Then pour the ground paste into the .Add some water,turmeric powder&salt as required. Now mix this gravy with the cooked drumsticks and cook for 5-10 min. Muringakkai Vathakulambu is ready to go with steamed rice.
