Cherupayar curry

 

















Ingredients

Green gram- 1cup
Red chilli powder-1 Tb sp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Coconut milk -200ml
Fennel seed powder-1/2tsp
Dry red chilli-2
Mustard-1/2tsp
Oil- 1 tbsp
Curry leaves -A sprig
Indian Cucumber(Dosakai/Vellarikka) or Potato-100g(pieces)-optional
Salt-as required
Water-2cups

Method

Soak the green gram in hot water for an hour.Pressure cook the soaked green gram along with chilli powder & turmeric powder for 7 minutes.You may add the cut cucumber also along with the green gram or u may add it at a later stage. Mash the cooked green gram slightly. Now add fennel powder ,salt and mix well.(do not add it earlier). Add the coconut milk and water as required and allow it to boil for a couple of minutes.Now prepare the seasoning with Mustard seeds, dry red chilli & curry leaves. Pour the seasoning to the cherupayar curry and mix it well. A tasty cherupayar curry is ready to go with Puttu/Chappathi or even hot Kanji( rice gruel)! Posted by Picasa
